After a long wait from Rusty Shipp, we have a new single that just came out exclusively to radio
on October 14, and there is a release date to all streaming services for October 25.
The single is off the upcoming album “Cosmic Innuendo” Vol. II. The album picks up where the story from
Vol. I: “Dark Side of the Ocean” left off, and fans can expect this album’s songs to flow and build
into each other, creating a story together. The new album is scheduled to be released in summer of 2025.
The inspiration for “Neck Breaker” came back in 2020 when Rusty and AJ (Drummer) were
starting to record the last album “Dark Side of the Ocean” during a warmup session where the
intro riff from Neck Breaker randomly came out. “Neck Breaker” became a placeholder name of
the riff because of it made him headbang in a way that felt like he would break his neck.
Though placeholder names never become names of songs because something more profound
or creative usually comes about later, Rusty Shipp wanted to find a way to keep this
original phrase. It was the truest and most pure phrase of the song, something that came about in
its infancy. “Neck Breaker” became a concept that they wanted to tie into the album’s fiction
story. With the album’s fiction story revolving around a crew of evil pirates on a sinister
mission, the song was able to tie in as a prophetic warning to them of their future fate at the
gallows.
Some favorite lyrics from “Neck Breaker” are written as the opening chorus line: “Don’t break
your neck trying to run from the gallows” which is followed by a different application of that
proverb. The dual meaning of the song and lyrics allows the listener to experience not only the
fictional story, but also the philosophical or spiritual message for their daily life application.
These lyrics are a warning that God doesn’t want people to fixate and obsess so much over
doom and gloom scenarios that their lives and health downward spiral into a state of suffering.
When listeners hear “Neck Breaker,” Rusty Shipp hopes they will have fun listening to a catchy
song with powerful energy, funky grooves, and creative variations. Fans can also expect to have
their thinking provoked and to be challenged to examine their lives. Are they fixating and
worrying about the negative outcome of something so much that their current experience is
becoming as if the bad thing has already happened?
