Staff Meteorologist Jim Vaugn provides weather updates for Aiken, SC and Augusta, GA throughout the day. Updates run at the top of the hour at 7 AM, 9 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM, 3 PM, 5 PM, 8 PM, 9 PM and 11 PM EST.

About Jim

Jim’s love of weather began back in 1976 when, at just 12 years old, he started taking home observations for the National Weather Service. He later earned his degree in Meteorology from Penn State University and spent over 30 years working as a Meteorologist Technician for the FAA, 29 of those at Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C.

In 1997, Jim began recording forecasts for the Verizon Weather Phone, serving cities like Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Boston, and Wichita. But it was in 2016 that he launched NowCast Weather, beginning with just one station: WRGG in Greencastle, Pennsylvania, a station that still airs NowCast forecasts to this day.

Word quickly spread about the clarity and consistency of NowCast’s forecasts. In 2017, Jim brought on fellow meteorologist and tech guru James Covington to help manage growing demand. From that point on, NowCast began to rapidly expand, serving 3 stations, then 52, and now 278 radio signals in 2025.
