This is The Year
I'm going to lose that winter coat I put on during the holidays!(you were chunky in August) I'm going to spend more time in prayer/the Word this coming year! I'm going to eat more Kale! It was nearly 3 weeks ago that you and I may have made such declarations. I'm sure at the time we meant them. I mean who doesn't follow through on life altering decisions made late at night after too many sips of Martinelli's, as the ball drops in NYC's Time Square faster than Mariah Carey's performance (bless her heart)! New years resolutions usually don't last and as many who make them will break them.
Statistically only 8% of people are successful in their midnight concocted goals. I don't want to be a wet blanket on your new fire for health, wealth and a desire to join a multi-level marketing scam (oops I meant company) but those are the numbers. I think it is a godly thing to want to grow. As a matter of fact, I believe it is part of God's plan for our lives.
3 John 2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.
What isn't cool is the condemnation we put on ourselves as we stumble in pursuit pursuing of greater things.(Romans 8:1) We have a tendency to view our relationship with God based on our capacity to "do" when His grace calls for our capacity to "receive". God digs you as you are. He knew what He was getting into when He called you and His love for you will never change. There was no bait and switch, and He doesn't feel like he was cat-fished! If you desire better, He will support that. If you started a new routine just do your best, don't beat yourself up. Keep it simple.
2 Then the Lord answered me and said:
"Write the vision
And make it plain on tablets,
That he may run who reads it.
For the vision is yet for an appointed time;
But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie.
Though it tarries, wait for it;
Because it will surely come,
It will not tarry.
Write it down, make it clear and join others who are pursuing the same things. Remember condemnation only comes from the devil. I know some people love quoting Isaiah 54:17 about "no weapon formed against you shall prosper" but when you finish the verse it has to do with accusation and judgment coming down on you. Rev 12:10-11 calls the devil the "accuser" of the brethren. Discouragement is an invaluable tool in his arsenal. So keep at it, watch a Rocky movie if you have to! You are already new because of Jesus' sacrifice and your growth won't happen in a day but can happen daily. If one of your resolutions was to rock more Last Day Rising shows (shameless plug), I strongly approve and I pray that you are caught by grace and persevere in your new endeavors. You can do it. It's only a couple of weeks in 2017, you still have 340+ days to grow.
